Is Chivalry Dead?

By now you've probably heard about ABC's latest reality show, The Bachelor, even if you didn't get a chance to catch it on TV. Basically, the premise of the show is that one well chosen, handsome, eligible male Alex Michel , (who is willing to admit on national television that he wants to get married), searches for true love on a weekly basis by choosing from twenty five gorgeous women who are vying for a chance to marry him, and must eliminate those he deems undesirable as the show progresses, until, of course, he's found his perfect dream girl. Sounds like every guy's fantasy, doesn't it?

As you can probably tell, cattiness abounds backstage when some, okay, most of the women are interviewed, especially when they get to view him (taped) in at least half a dozen romantic, seductive situations every week with their competitors. It's not easy to buy the sweet talk when a guy you just thought you spent a great evening with is now saying pretty much the same thing to the woman who was sitting next to you in the make up chair...

Apparently, though, he has found his Miss Right in Amanda Marsh - but as you'll soon find out, the road to love is never smooth.

The thing that I want to know is this - Do these women really want to marry a man whom they've never met, or are they just looking for exposure for their acting reels? We all know the dating scene can be pretty discouraging at times, but is this the best way to tempt fate to find your own true love? Or is it just asking for trouble?
