Seize the Moment!

Zack knows of a single's dance this coming Saturday night. He wonders if it would it be a good place to go to try to meet women or would he just be the guy standing alone in the corner the whole night? Should he go?

When I was younger, I was very shy. (I actually won the award for shyest person in my senior class in high school), and when they called me to go up on stage to get it, I ran out of the auditorium, and everyone laughed. Anyway...

There was no way I would ever get out there and dance, but... I knew that if I stayed home, I'd just hate myself. So I'd go. I might sit in the bleachers and hang out, pretending to have a great time, but at least I was there. It's funny when you're shy, you think that if you get up to dance, that everyone will be staring at you. In my case, it would have probably been true, though, because I actually couldn't dance. But I digress...

Now, years later... I realized that it was all in my head, and found that I really love to dance.

A few weeks ago I wanted to go do just that, so I called up some friends and met them at a fun place downtown. Now I don't need a partner to dance, in fact, I could care less. To me, dancing is a free spirit sort of thing, so I'll just go out there by myself and have fun.

On this particular night, I noticed that there were a bunch of random guys just hanging out by the bars... just standing there, watching everyone else dance (the women, I'm sure) but not making one move towards any kind of connection or conversation. If I walked by, they'd just stare. Its like they were there, but not there. I think a dance club is a great place to meet women, because it's so energetic and tribal. Call me practical.

As a result of this observation, I'm guessing that there are at least five types of men to be found at a dance club.

  1. The guy who's with his girlfriend.
  2. The guy who's with his boyfriend.
  3. The bouncer/bartender.
  4. The guy who stands around all night by the bar like a shadow in a petrified forest.
  5. The guy who gets out there, dances near me, acts like a fool to make me laugh, strikes up a conversation, and as a result, will more than likely get my number.

So which one are you? And, more importantly, which one do you want to be?
