RELATIONSHIP ADVICE - ASK BRENDA

Dating? Or are we?

Dear Brenda,

I recently met a really great guy. He's wonderful, and we chat almost every day. We've been out a few times, and haven't known each other for very long. This is my first real 'guy' so I'm a little nervous. We've held hands, he calls me by a nickname, we've spent the other evening curled up on his couch, and I got the world's best massage. He tickles me, tells me I'm beautiful, and that I make his day. And yet he hasn't kissed me. I've made some comments about wanting to kiss him, but he always says "Who would want to kiss a face like this?" And he's one hot guy, so I really don't get it. The other day he had managed to stab himself in the lip with a pair of pliers, and had a fat lip. I made the comment about how convient that was, because then he didn't have to give me a good-bye kiss. He replied that he didn't do it on purpose, but he didn't even seem bothered by not kissing me.

Is this just some sort of close friendship, is he nervous, or does he not find me kissable? I'm just confused, because I thought after the amount of intimacy we had that evening, he'd at least want to kiss me at the end.

Dear Royal Alexia,

It sounds like he's being a chicken. I doubt he would be giving you backrubs, snuggling with you and holding your hand if he weren't clearly physically attracted to you. You know, I have a friend who was just like this. Outwardly trying to play it cool, while inside he was shakin' in his boots, probably afraid of rejection combined with being a bit obtuse when it comes to reading signals. By the third date, his now wife got tired of waiting for the world to end before he'd get up the courage to kiss him, and she just jumped on him when they were on the sofa, and kissed him. They've been married for years now.

Some guys need to be with women who give the clearest signals possible before they will ever make a move. Is this guy otherwise quiet or shy? I'm guessing so. We already know that he's clumsy. lol
