"Fall" In Love

It was Alfred Tennyson, the great English poet, who said "In spring, a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of love." That may have been true in the 19th century when Tennyson lived, but in the modern world, spring is a time when a young man's fancy is tickled by the promise of sex - lust, not love. Our flesh and the flesh of others, no longer hidden under bulky winter clothing, is put on display causing libidos to rise along with the temperature. But if love has a season, it's fall, at least for those of us who live in areas where the seasons change.

In fall, the leaves explode in brilliant colors creating a beauty very conducive to romance. The cooler temperatures and the threat of the bone chilling winter cold to come encourages us to stock up on anything guaranteed to keep us warm: hot cocoa, sweatshirts and logs for the fire. But what every gay guy really wants is a man, a cute stud to drink that hot cocoa with while cuddling in front of the fireplace when the nights grow long and dark.

Fall is a perfect time to look for that man. You can make a date to remember, one that may bloom into the relationship you want, by taking advantage of the uniquely romantic opportunities that autumn presents:

Go on a hayride: Sounds silly, doesn't it? But that silly, playful side of your personality is also very attractive. It shows you can let yourself go and indulge in some wild, uninhibited fun. If you enjoy yourself when rolling around in a wagon full of hay, you can obviously be a lot of fun between the sheets, as well. You're offering a preview of your bedroom personality but in a way that shows you value romance as much as sex. Once you're worn out from wrestling and throwing hay at each other, you can hold each other close, comfy and cozy while the autumn sun sets overhead.

Go horseback riding: A horseback ride is sexy. The clip, clop, clip, clop of the horse's hooves and the jerky up and down motion is a turn-on, reminiscent of another activity. If you're a "top," you'll probably want to take the lead and ride the horse while your date sits behind you, his arms wrapped around your waist and his head resting on your manly shoulders. And for all of us bottoms, what could be more romantic that cuddling up to our cowboy as he rides off into the sunset with us in tow? When you reach the end of the trail, get down from the horse and get down with each other.

Take a hike: Time flies, and in a society that values speed and efficiency that's truer than ever before. Only by slowing down can we really savor the good times in life. There's no better way than to take a walk, especially in the country during autumn when nature puts on a show that none of the latest Hollywood blockbusters can match. You want romance? How about holding hands with your boyfriend while walking down a dirt road covered with leaves that look like they were painted by Van Gogh? Or resting against a tree while you stare into each other's eyes, profess your love, and engage in a long, passionate kiss? While you're at it, stop at a farmer's market, buy some corn and nibble on it together. When it's gone, nibble each other in a bed of leaves.

Go Trick or Treating: Who said Halloween is only for kids? Even if you don't reap much candy, you and your date will have a sweet experience, sweeter still when the night is over and you share the treats you both come by naturally. Halloween is a perfect time to get to know someone. We're already used to wearing masks. We wear invisible ones throughout much of our lives as we try to fool people into thinking we're stronger and more self-assured than we are. It's a funny thing though. When we put on a literal mask, we often remove the ones we wear everyday, relax and feel free to be ourselves. Our choice of costume also reveals something about our personalities. If you like to dress up as Minnie Mouse and your date prefers to be Mickey, that speaks well of your future together.

All of these activities are a refreshing break from the usual bar scene and can make for very memorable, exquisitely romantic dates. Fall is the season of love, so fall in love while the season lasts.
