Ten Tips for Handling Holiday Stress

Comment from Sean
I just try to enjoy whatever is unique to the season. For instance sometimes there are good toy sales that we enjoy playing with together before Xmas. And light some candles and enjoy a new or old holiday music CD like Jaci Valezquez, Yolanda Adams, Natalie Cole. Can you imagine I even sang a Christmas song at karaoke?!!!

I stay busy working out as much as I can.

Being that I'm widow (33yrs old) and lost my husband 3 yrs ago during 911, I normally like to work and keep my mind busy. If I reflect upon the holidays too much I get depressed. Does anyone out there have any suggestions on not having to work so much and to enjoy the season more?

Holidays can be extremely stressful, especially in my profession. I'm a florist and work really long hours. The way I handle stressful situations is I don't let it get to me. I shop and do everything at all possible much ahead of the holiday times. I'm very conscientious about my work and especially tuned in to peoples feelings. I do one thing at a time efficiently and always make time to smile. A smile not only helps oneself feel better but also the people around you. On the telephone I'm to the point but use nice tone and always end with a "Thank you, have a nice holiday."

Just by considering it as any other day of the year plus an extra of happiness and family union which is in some way good. Also by knowing really the meaning of the sharing time that we have in these days and which can not be applicable in other moments of the year.

Total turmoil inside, a bright smile outside. When I can I take a minute or two or three and curl up with a good book, lights out except for one and get lost in the adventures with the people of the book.

Relax and think about all the good things I do have like family and good health and the opportunity to do something good to help myself and others.
