Pete (parents married 40 years)
The only reason I can figure is that my parents are still madly in love with each other. In all the years since I was a little kid, I can't recall them ever fighting. If dad would drink one two many glasses of wine, mom would just give him a look. You know that look... |

Linda (parents married 35.5 years)
The number one secret is acceptance of the other person, and it helps if you're best friends. My dad still calls my mom two or three times during the day just to chat. He says he would be lost without her. |

Kelly (parents married 7 years)
I think the secret would be to never see each other... or there should be at least one day a week where you don't see the other person - and if you break that law, you have to get divorced. I think it's unnatural for people to stay together for that long. |

Sarah (parents married 29 years)
My parents are happy, but once got divorced for 5 years, then got back together. They'd gotten married too young. My mother had three children by the age of 21. They needed some space apart. My dad even got married to someone else during their time apart. |

Nancy & Kit (married 37 years)
We've been dating since the 8th grade. We're very good friends. We would rather be together than apart, and we arent' going to retire until we can retire together. We respect each other's opinions, all of our big decisions are made together. It's not I or me, it's us. It's not easy. |

Carol Anne (parents married 40 years)
I think it's give and take. My parents bought a vacation home & spend 5 months out of the year away from everyone they know. Dad's always away doing chores and Mom's left home alone, but she says that if it makes him happy and it's what he wants, then she's willing to sacrifice - because he's done so much for her over the years. |
